The beach house is alive again! Cara Rutledge has come home to the Isle of Palms and Primrose Cottage to restart her life. At 53, she has adopted Hope, who is only a year old. She needs to build her career and find a way to lessen her grief from the loss of her husband, Brett. Since three years have gone by, she knows she needs to move on with life. Cara is flooded with memories as she settles in, especially of her mother, Lovie. A hint of jasmine is in the air. To help her with Hope, Cara hires Linnea, her brother Palmer’s daughter, to live with her for the summer. As the story unfolds, she finds that her brother Palmer’s family is in need. The tensions between Palmer, his wife Julia, and their young adult children, Linnea (22) and Cooper (18) are like a tropical storm building towards a hurricane. Linnea feels fortunate for being able to get away from all the turmoil. This multigenerational story deals with new beginnings, family struggles, love, and the beauty of the sea and its surroundings. Mary Alice Monroe’s vivid descriptions awakened my senses throughout this book. I saw the light from the moon reflecting on the water. I visualized the colors of the sunrises and sunsets. And the dolphins and loggerheads filled me with the awe that they deserve. Previous characters are brought back, and I especially squealed with delight when Toy, who is working with her beloved loggerheads at the aquarium, is a part of the story. The development of new loves from friendship is wonderful. I was drawn into the story from the first page to the last. I laughed like the dolphins, cried for the female loggerheads, and relished every moment. [I received a complimentary copy.]

Beach House Reunion The Beach House Mary Alice Monroe 9781501193293 Books Reviews

Family reunions can run the emotional gamut from euphoria (reconnecting with friends and family) to melancholy (deeply missing loved ones who are no longer living), and Mary Alice Monroe's latest novel in the Beach House series doesn't disappoint her avid readers. From the very day Cara Rutledge returns to Primrose Cottage with the newest member of her family until the final gut-wrenching reconciliation and rehabilitation of her brother Palmer with her nephew Cooper, Beach House Reunion transports the reader back to the Isle of Palms as Cara builds a new life for herself after the untimely, tragic death of her beloved Brett. Along the way, she welcomes the comfort of Lovie's cottage, now hers, and reestablishes her relationships with her neighbors, fellow Turtle Team Ladies, as she develops new relationships with her niece Linnea and a new man in her life. Along this journey, Cara revisits dear friends Flo and Emmi, Heather and Bo, Toy and Ethan, as she takes a leap of faith with a very special one.

As always, Loggerhead turtles play an important role in this Beach House novel, and Big Girl makes an unexpected return to the Isle of Palms, too. Cara's life parallels Big Girl's in a striking way "This girl's been through some tough times, taken a few knocks, but she's moving forward, as steady and relentless as a tank. She's going all the way home."
Something that makes this book extra special is that we get to catch up with many of the people from her other books.Cara is now 53 and has recently adopted a daughter and is moving back home for the support of friends and family. Her niece Linnea is moving in for the summer to be a nanny for Cara's daughter, Hope. Linnea has recently graduated from college and is sorting out what to do with her life. Heather's dad, David Wyatt is also a big part of the story. We catch up with Heather and Bo, and Emmi and Flo, and Toy and Ethan. Emmi's son, John is also a big part of the story. I was very worried about Linnea's brother Cooper and her dad, Palmer. They seemed to be following in Palmer and Cara's dad's footsteps. Lovie is also a big part of the story whether in the memory of others or special appearances.
Cara Rutledge returns to her cherished family beach home in Isle of Palms, South Carolina after living in Tennessee for three years. She has missed her support system of friends and family and desperately needs their help because of a sudden life altering decision that she has made. In Beach House Reunion, the reader is reconnected with characters from the previous Beach House books including a very comforting ghost. Mary Alice Monroe is a gifted storyteller who seamlessly weaves themes of marine wildlife and ocean conservation, grief, substance abuse, alcoholism, destructive family patterns, motherhood, love, romance, friendship and resilience into this compelling story.
Once again, Mary Alice Monroe triumphs with the fifth book in her beloved beach house series. When I began Beach House Reunion I could not put it down and finished in one day, savoring every word. Monroe's readers will be thrilled with this beautifully crafted and poignant novel.
Beach House Reunion is a fun yet emotional read. The story gives you hope to find love again after the death of your spouse. The turtle information at the beginning of each chapter is so very interesting and makes you more aware of the endangerment and determination of the sea turtles. And Big Girl comes back!

One of my favorite parts, and there were many, from the book comes from Cara while she’s checking the damage from the hurricane~”Oh, Brett,” she said and hugged the pergola. THIS was her sign. “Strong and sure. I know what you’re trying to tell me. And I hear you. No more tears. I’ll weather the storms. I’ll persevere. Live again. I will treasure each day.” She reached up to wipe away the last of her tears. “And each day,” she said, looking out at the endless sea, “I’ll remember you.”~
Thanks, Mary Alice!!! I personally needed this!
